The Board of Library Trustees heard a presentation from Kate Merlin of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners on the state's Municipal Appropriation Requirement (MAR); failure to meet the MAR for five years results in decertification, meaning Halifax residents lose borrowing access to other libraries. Director Dylan Benoit reported that the Finance Committee had suggested a $40,000 budget cut but was assured town officials were not pursuing it due to decertification risk.
Trustees Susan Hill, Tina Palmer, Erin Nagle, and Holly Dillon committed to attending town meeting on May 11 to advocate for library funding.
