HALIFAX — Finance Committee identified approximately $5.9 million in structural budget pressure over four years, driven by accelerating costs in schools, pensions, health insurance, and technology, during its September 9 planning session for FY28. Chair James Walters reported that Silver Lake regional assessment and elementary school spending together account for $5.06 million of the gap. The committee expressed a preference for setting an affordable school-funding target based on recurring revenue capacity rather than beginning with school requests.
Town Administrator Darlene Sullivan pledged improved financial coordination. The committee's next meeting is September 21 via Zoom.
