Finance Committee outlines three budget scenarios for Town Meeting

Finance Committee · Meeting of February 2, 2026

HALIFAX — Finance Committee lays out three budget paths for fiscal 2027 as new Town Administrator joins planning. Committee Chair James Walters led the panel through budget planning discussions, proposing to present residents with three scenarios at Town Meeting: a level funded budget, a 2.5 percent increase budget, and an override budget option. The committee voted unanimously to approve prior meeting minutes and established a February 28 deadline for departments to submit five-year capital plans.

Police and Fire chiefs are invited to the February 17 meeting to discuss their budget requests. The committee stressed the importance of helping residents understand that any override, if required, would not be a one-year solution.
