Halifax Finance Committee examines FY27 budget amid 1.4 million dollar deficit. Town Administrator Steven Solbo attributed the shortfall to rising costs in Plymouth County Retirement contributions, health insurance, and insurance, while local receipts from vehicle excise and meal taxes have declined. Police Chief Chaves and Fire Chief Witham presented departmental budgets with increases driven by mandatory staffing costs and utility expenses.
The board must determine by July 1 how to address the unexpected loss of its Board of Health Agent and the resulting 420,000 dollar grant administration decision.
