Halifax Government Study Committee narrows Articles for Town Meeting
Government Study Committee · Meeting of January 8, 2026
HALIFAX — Government Study Committee moves forward with targeted Articles for Town Meeting including Selectboard rename. Committee Chair Thomas Pratt and members Mary Gravinese, Mark Dillon, and Kerri Sellers discussed proposals to rename the Board of Selectmen and revisit elected versus appointed positions while noting constraints on filling elected roles due to residency requirements. They raised concerns about the Water Commissioner position, currently a volunteer role, questioning whether the Board of Selectmen should simultaneously serve in that capacity.
The committee plans to create a 45-second educational video with each member speaking to one Article using prepared scripts.
