Halifax selectmen present $1.5 million budget override option to restore service cuts. Town Administrator Steven Solbo outlined cuts across nine departments, including elimination of the junior officer and school resource officer positions in the Police Department, reduction of Fire Department shifts from three to two persons per shift, and a $161,000 cut to the Council on Aging including a 50 percent reduction to Director Darlene Regan's salary. The override would cost the average household $44 per month and add $199,159 to reserves.
The override requires approval at Town Meeting followed by a ballot vote.
