HALIFAX — The Halifax Council on Aging board voted unanimously to permanently shift its meeting time to 10 a.m. on third Tuesdays. Director Darlene Regan told the board the town's GATRA transportation reimbursement account has grown to $164,000 since 2023, with another $13,000 banked and $24,000 pending. The board also heard that the planned new senior center's budget-conscious "Option B" design lacks finished flooring, adequate freezer space and a staff bathroom, a shortfall Chairman Jean Gallant called "almost more of a shell of a building." Regan said the $50,000 the July 29 special town meeting approved for staff wages will have to be split between a full-time and part-time position, complicating hiring plans.
The state's per-senior formula grant, based on a census of 2,115 seniors, is expected to total $33,832 this year.
