Halifax Select Board approves Starbucks license, Lakeville shelter deal unanimously

Halifax Select Board unanimously approved a Starbucks common victualler license and renewed its Lakeville animal shelter agreement at a 23-minute meeting January 13. The board, chaired by Jonathan Selig with members Bill Smith and Tom Pratt, cleared two rounds of financial warrants totaling more than $4.4 million, including a single vendor warrant of $2,811,429.47, and ratified a $141,706.38 ambulance abatement for December 2025. Dan Brennan, a licensing agent for Starbucks Corporation, said the 2,500-square-foot drive-through building at an undisclosed Halifax location is expected to open in the second week of February, with hours of 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Interim Town Administrator Bob Fennessey, in what he called his final formal update, announced that incoming Town Administrator Stephen Sobo starts January 26 and that the newly formed Override Study Committee held its first meeting January 12, a signal that a potential Proposition 2-and-a-half override question is under active study ahead of town meeting.
