Library trustees vote to close restrooms Saturdays

Other Committee · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Halifax library trustees close restrooms Saturdays, citing $8,305 in plumbing repairs. The Holmes Public Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously to keep restrooms open weekdays but closed to the public on Saturdays during youth sports activity, after Library Director Dylan Benoit reported clog-related repair costs. Trustees separately reviewed a draft policy letting trained staff run cooking demonstrations under the library's $125 annual food permit, and a 2027 community garden proposal from volunteer Ed Godboy that would expand five raised beds into roughly 40 rentable plots at an unset price.

Benoit, who started as director on July 16, 2025, received ratings from "above average" to "outstanding" in his first annual review; trustees praised his grant-writing and data analysis but urged him to delegate more, writing he "has provided himself and the town with a team that works well together." A proposed AI-generated-flyers policy was tabled to October.
