Halifax panel urges recording of all public meetings
Other Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Halifax's Government Study Committee pushes for mandatory meeting recordings and tighter board accountability. The panel, formed in October 2024 to study a possible town charter, seated new public member Lauren Frame and agreed to recommend to the Board of Selectmen on Sept. 22 that all town boards record meetings, at minimum by audio, by year's end. Members cited a resident survey in which transparency was the top concern and pointed to the Parks Department, which members said had not met in roughly a year, as a case study in accountability gaps: "What is their job?
What is this committee's job?" one member asked. The committee also disclosed roughly $8,200 in outside research costs over 14 months and assigned members to divide a review of the town's approximately 60 bylaws ahead of its next meeting, set for Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
