Beautification Committee · Meeting of March 11, 2026
Halifax Beautification Committee heard a state briefing on reviving herring runs in the Stump Brook watershed. Brad Chase, diadromous fish project leader for the state Division of Marine Fisheries, described a fishway at the Stumpbrook Bog Reservoir Dam that briefly let herring reach Silver Lake before a dam breach forced its shutdown, and said a $78,000 Narragansett Bay Estuary Program grant will fund design and permitting to remove two culverts in the Burrage Wildlife Management Area. New Town Administrator Steve Solbo, who worked on an $8 million grant-funded fish passage project in Bridgewater, pledged to "chase every single grant" for Halifax's culvert work at Elm and Furnace streets.
The committee also approved its February 11 minutes unanimously and continued planning its May 2-3 spring cleanup.
