Halifax Finance Committee stalls on school budget data as new Town Administrator prepares to start. Meeting Tuesday for just 17 minutes via Zoom, the five-member committee, chaired by Jim Walters and including members Cheryll Zarrella Burke, Frank Johnston, Rodney Hemingway, and Michael Bennett, voted 5-0 to adjourn after a status review that produced no new budget figures. The School Department has yet to submit either the level-funded or 10 percent reduction scenarios the committee requested, instead providing a level-service budget; Walters said he would follow up directly with outgoing School Business Manager Sarah Hickey.
State cherry sheets and the Silver Lake Regional assessment also remained unavailable. Walters confirmed that Interim Town Administrator Bob Fennessey is expected to depart within weeks after the permanent Town Administrator starts Monday, and a tentative joint budget review with the Board of Selectmen is scheduled for March 24, though Walters said he hopes to move the date earlier.
