Halifax Select Board votes 3-0 to approve town administrator's exit deal
Select Board · Meeting of July 30, 2026
Halifax Select Board votes 3-0 to approve town administrator's separation agreement. The board unanimously approved a mutual transition and separation agreement with Town Administrator Stephen Sobel Jr. at a six-minute session Thursday morning, with no public discussion of terms. The chair called the job "a tough gig" and thanked Sobel for his service, while another member credited him with a smoother town meeting session the night before despite recent "noise." Under questioning from a resident who identified himself as Alan, the chair said the agreement is a public record that must be released within 10 days of any formal request, adding, "the hope would be by this time, next week." Alan said he would file a public records request himself.
The board did not disclose Sobel's last working day or whether a successor search has begun.
