Planning Board Votes Site Plan Was Violated

Planning Board · Meeting of September 3, 2026

Halifax Planning Board finds a site plan violation at 285 Holmes Street after abutters' complaint. Chair Thomas Millias, Vice Chair Robert Gaynor, Clerk Amy L. Troup and member James Walsh voted unanimously that the light-industrial property has outgrown its approved use, citing vehicle storage, antique furniture sales and roughly 9,000 cubic yards of soil removed without a permit.

Neighbor Jake Okerfelt's nine-page letter argued the operation "appears to be operated in a way that is significantly different from what was presented" when the board approved it under PSPR 24-1. Members criticized Building Inspector Michael Brogan's 24-hour compliance review clearing the site, and voted to send letters to the Conservation Commission on stormwater permitting and to authorize Millias to sign both letters immediately. The agenda itself passed 3-0 with one abstention from Troup.
