Halifax School Committee ratifies teacher contract, SRO deal
School Committee · Meeting of August 31, 2026
Halifax School Committee ratifies teacher contract and a new school resource officer deal. Members voted unanimously Monday to approve a one-year memorandum of agreement with the Halifax Teachers Association and a memorandum of understanding placing a school resource officer at Halifax Elementary School, with Superintendent Dr. Jill Proulx saying the district hopes to see the officer "as often as we did last year" as the police department rebuilds its own staffing.
The committee also confirmed the contract of new Assistant Principal Casey Bailey, who started in July. Principal Brian Prehna reported 551 students enrolled and credited a $200,000 town budget restoration with funding three new teaching hires. Member Tara Tonello's welcome letter to families, approved for distribution via My Parent Square, read in part that the committee wants residents to know "that we're here."
