Halifax School Committee appoints James to open seat
School Committee · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Halifax's School Committee and Board of Selectmen vote 7-0 to seat James on the open committee seat. The joint board picked James over fellow finalist Sam after a lengthy public interview on budget experience and committee dynamics. Member Jody warned that "every year we present a 10% decrease has a negative impact on the morale of our staff," as Superintendent Dr.
Jill Proulx confirmed the district must again prepare a 10 percent budget-cut scenario for December. Principal Brian Prehna reported enrollment at 551 students, the highest in four years, while Director of Student Services Dr. Heather Tucker detailed a $530,000 circuit breaker claim yielding roughly $234,800 in state reimbursement.
The committee also corrected a minutes error, changing $20,000 to $200,000, and advanced ten revised policies on a 4-0 first-read vote.
