Halifax Board of Health unanimously hires Tighe & Bond to independently review the Marilyn's Landing landfill remediation plan. Chair Pamela Engstrom and Co-Chair Candice Greene, the only members present at the February 18 meeting with David Hatch absent, chose the firm over two other candidates because Tighe & Bond already monitors Halifax's own municipal landfill. Interim Health Agent Robert Buker had presented three candidates, Tighe & Bond, Sitec Engineering, and TRC Companies, and the board settled quickly on the existing relationship.

Greene said her central question for the outside engineers is whether the remediation can be accomplished "on a smaller scale" without importing large volumes of fill. Seven residents spoke during public comment, most challenging the use of soil they described as contaminated; Selectman Tom Pratt, of 10 Arrowhead Path, urged the board not to let MacDonald Industries' history of town donations "cloud your board's judgment" on what he called "a short-term problem with long-term ramifications."
